Puerto del Carmen is Lanzarote's largest resort. The tourist part consists of a coastal strip, lined with restaurants (about 150 of these), bars, shops (including a plentiful supply of supermarkets), discos, car hire firms and all of the other conveniences of a popular holiday resort. The entire length of the road is lined with parking places on both sides (mainly "pay and display") and through traffic is constantly impeded by people manoeuvring in and out of these. The generous provision of parking spaces, however, does mean that you can usually find one which is reasonably close to your intended destination. As on the rest of the island, there is no high-rise development and the sandy beaches (which run along the whole length of the resort) are excellent and very suitable for families. The promenade has been attractively landscaped. Much less frenetic, and certainly more authentic, is the old town of Puerto del Carmen (originally known as La Tiņosa). Here, you will find the only church, the small original harbour and a huddle of dwellings and old warehouses many of which now house restaurants specialising in fish and tending to be more traditionally Canarian than their counterparts in the new town.
A small, sleepy, hillside hamlet with fabulous The village has a well-stocked supermarket and a bar. The beaches, shops, restaurants and bars of Puerto del Carmen are just an eight-minute drive away. An ideal location to get away from it all in a peaceful village setting but with all the facilities of the island's main resort close by.
An established urbanisation in a rural setting which attractively hugs a south-facing hillside. The old hamlet of Nazaret is nearby and there is a supermarket here and a larger Mas Y Mas supermarket, about 10 minutes away by car. There are three restaurants in close proximity. There are further restaurants in the delightful old town of Teguise, 5 minutes away by car (the Icarus is particularly good). The nearest beach is at Costa Teguise (10 minutes by car).
