Lanzarote, is an ideal holiday island with a near perfect climate, interesting scenery, a plentiful supply of good restaurants and a choice of quality accommodation.
The island's appearance has been sculptured by a series of cataclysmic, volcanic eruptions and from the moment you land on the island, you will be in no doubt about the island's volcanic origins. Yet Lanzarote has a unique beauty all of its own and the islanders have done more than any others in the archipelago to preserve and enhance this. High rise development is banned and all development (particularly in rural areas) is strictly controlled. Daytime temperatures in January and February are generally in the low 70's and even in January you can expect an average of 6 hours of daily sunshine. In summer, there is usually a moderating breeze so that temperatures rarely get oppressively excessive. Add to this an unpolluted atmosphere and crystal-clear seas and you have a near perfect all year around environment.
Beach lovers are well catered for while, for those who enjoy a more active holiday, a variety of sporting activities are available. Puerto del Carmen offers restaurants and All of this coupled with the quality accommodation which we are able to offer make Lanzarote the ideal place for you to relax, re-charge your batteries and enjoy a perfect holiday.
The sandy east coast beaches at Costa Teguise and Puerto del Carmen are excellent, as are those on the south coast at Playa Blanca and Papagayo. The Papagayo beaches are reached by dirt tracks and are popular with naturists.
The clean, unpolluted waters often provide visibility of 20 metres or more and several varieties of large fish can be seen including barracuda, conger, grouper and rays. Puerto del Carmen has a diving centre.
Deep-sea fishing expeditions are available daily from Puerto del Carmen. Fishing from the rocks is possible at several places around the island.
There is an 18-hole golf course at Costa Teguise.
Puerto del Carmen is the main centre with discos, a large selection of bars and a few places which offer displays of traditional Canarian dancing.
Timanfaya National Park - a must for every visitor to Lanzarote. You will be amazed by a bizarre landscape which was formed by huge volcanic eruptions which began in 1730. A one hour coach trip around the park (with excellent English commentary) will reveal fumaroles, (volcanic chimneys), hornitos (ovens) and the serene "Valley of Tranquillity." El Golfo - an amazing emerald-green lagoon divided from the sea by a broad, black sandbank. The old capital of Teguise - a quiet, dignified town with some fine old buildings and several restaurants. On Sunday mornings there is a market with hundreds of stalls, the only fleamarket on Lanzarote. Jameos del Agua - a fantastic grotto and underground lake with mood music and tropical landscaping. Los Verdes - a four mile long cave which was blasted through the earth by exploding lava. Guided tour including son et lumière. Mirador del Rio - situated at the northern tip of the island and well worth a visit. The mirador stands atop a sheer cliff, over 1,500 feet high, which overlooks, as if from an aircraft, the island of Graciosa and the narrow channel which separates it from Lanzarote. Nearby, is the small, picturesque fishing village of Orzola, with several restaurants and a series of sandy coves. There is a ferry from Orzola to Graciosa and from the island the view of the cliffs is breathtaking. La Graciosa has an area of just 15 square miles, about 400 inhabitants and no cars. There are two villages and several lovely beaches.
There is a large choice of restaurants (around 150 in Puerto del Carmen alone!) offering international cuisine and dining can be very good with, generally, excellent meat and fish. Restaurants offering traditional Canarian dishes are also to be found in Puerto del Carmen and elsewhere.
There are yacht marinas at Arrecife, Puerto Calero (south of Puerto del Carmen) and at Playa Blanca.
There are squash courts in the Club Insular (opposite the Fariones Hotel in Puerto del Carmen) and the Toca Club in Costa Teguise. Racquets are available for hire.
Surfing takes place at the beaches of Caleta de Famara, La Santa, Orzola, Arrieta and Janubio.
Nearly all the hotels on Lanzarote have tennis courts which can be used by non-residents.
Lanzarote is covered by a network of tracks making walking less difficult, particularly in the verdant north of the island, than might be expected from a cursory inspection of the terrain.
The archipelago is one of the top world centres for this sport. For beginners, the best beaches are Playa los Pocillos (just north of Puerto del Carmen) and the man-made lagoon at the La Santa Sport complex (on the coast north of Tinajo). For intermediate surfers, the Fariones beach in Puerto del Carmen and the beaches at Playa los Pocillos, Playa Matagorda and Playa Blanca all offer good sport while advanced surfers will enjoy La Santa (offshore), Las Cucharas (Costa Teguise), Matagorda, Janubio Playa and Caleta de Famara.
